Passive Memorial

OK, which is worse?  The crappy road side memorials that crop up along the side of the road, and then proceed to rot while we all watch, or the dirt mall vinyl memorial stickers to decorate the back window of your car?

Both of them seem to be a form of passive memorial of a person that has died.  It seems like that by making a wooden cross and buying some teddy bears and/or flowers, or spending $30 for a sticker for your back window, they are keeping the memory of that person alive.  But, to me, it seems rather passive.  It seems to me as a way to act like your remembering the person, but really, how much thought goes into it once the cross is stuck in the ground, or the sticker is applied.
Remembering someone is a personal and continuing process, something you should participate in.  It’s not something you purchase and be done with.
It seems very white-trash to me for some reason.  (Perhaps that’s a reflection of the types of cars you normally see the stickers on,  or the type of neighborhood have any number of roadside memorials)
