Nerdy Updates

Couple of cool propellor head type things I’ve found and played with in the 24 hours.

I’ve been looking for a way to intergrate some of the my OTHER blog like outposts on Internet into this blog.  Things like Twitter, Facebook, Flick, etc.  While looking for individual tools for each of those external feeds, I ran across Life Stream, which is a WordPress pluging that allows you to pull the updates from just about ANY other social network type feed you have, and intergrated them into the blog.  I’ve chosen to have a LifeStream in my sidebar, rather then choose the option to put them directly into the main blog feed.  It was very easy to install/implement, and supports everything that I wanted to intergrate (and about 2 dozen other feeds.)  It also will support plain jane RSS feeds, so there really is no limit to what you can intergrate.  I was REALLY happy to find a single solution, and one that seems to (so far) work very nicely.  Worth a gander, if you run a WordPress based blog.

The other toy is even COOLER, and probably will be very bad for me in the long run.  Amazon released Amazon Mobile for iPhone, and it’s a very nice little app.  It has the expected features, like 1-Click shopping and full access to your wishlist, shopping cart, and saved items.  But, it also has a neat feature called Remembers, which allows you to take a picture of an item, and it will upload the picture to Amazon, and attempt to identify and link to that item on Amazon.  I tested it with a can of Dust-Off Canned Air, and my Nortel 1140e VoIP phone, and it was able to identify and find each item in the store.  This is going to be VERY bad for me.  The ability to wander into a store, take a picture of something, and then 1-Click purchase it before I even leave the store will be the death of me.

iPhone / Flickr magic

Decided today that I was going to set things up so I could easily send photos from my iPhone to my Flicker account. I’ve not used Flickr much in the past, but not because I dislike it, but it didn’t serve a purpose for me. I used to send photos form my Razr to my movable type/wordpress blogs, but the phone/camera sucked so much it wasn’t worth it.

I have to say I was surprised by how easy it was to get working. Just setup a secret flickr email address, and put it in my contacts. Subject becomes the title, body the description. Had it down pat the second try.

And bloody fast!! The photo appears INSTANTLY!

I love it when a plan comes together (and when shit works like it’s supposed to!)
